In a recent interview, Azadeh Williams, managing director of AZK Media, shares her vision on how the Cairns Hatchlings program, presented by Yahoo, is shaping the future of the marketing and advertising industry. Williams speaks with B&T about being a judge of this prestigious program, aiming to bridge the gap between education and employment in the creative industry.

Through the Cairns Hatchlings program, against the backdrop of the Cairns Crocodiles event, emerging professionals gain invaluable real-world experience that prepares them for a thriving career. She believes mentorship and hands-on experience are key to building a well-rounded skill set, equipping young people with the tools and confidence they need to succeed in a highly competitive field.
“Before starting AZK Media, I lectured in media for a number of years. Having mentored and lectured hundreds of students, I realised back then the true power and value of mentoring the next generation of media, marketing and PR talent,” she says.
“Strengthening the capabilities of the next generation of marketing and PR talent is critical in today’s highly volatile landscape, where working hours can be sporadic, work-life balance challenging, and expectations sky-high. It’s also essential to move the industry forward in a positive and empowered direction,” adds Williams.
Beyond mentorship, Williams advocates for doing good in the industry. Adopting a charitable, ‘brand with purpose’ mindset can be applicable at any stage of a person’s career.
“Even as a small media agency, we work on many pro bono initiatives, including partnering with the Global AI Ethics Institute to drive meaningful conversations around the ethics of AI in our society.”
Williams’ message to the next generation is clear: with the advertising industry evolving at a fast pace, she encourages young professionals to embrace change and remain agile; always seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow.
By empowering young talent, promoting diversity, and advocating for innovation, Williams hopes her work with Cairns Hatchlings helps to shape a creative industry that is not only more dynamic but also more representative of the world we live in.
